The state attorney general’s office is issuing a warning to those affected by last week’s storm – be on the lookout for scammers.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan is asking people to do research on who they hire to help cleanup and rebuild, saying that scammers could be going door-to-door posing as insurance adjusters or contactors.

Madigan says that those scammers usually try to pressure storm victims in to making quick, expensive decisions, and then demanding cash payment.

If you believe you’ve encountered a scammer, you are urged to call the Consumer Fraud Hotline at 1-800-243-0607 to report any suspicious activity.
