Southern Illinois’ representation in Washington was split along party lines when asked about President Donald Trump’s updated travel ban.

Democratic Senators Dick Durban and Tammy Duckworth said yesterday that the travel restrictions on the Muslim majority nations would do little to improve the security of the United States with Duckworth adding that the ban serves as a “propaganda tool” for our enemies by reinforcing their claim that the US hates Muslims.

On the other side of the political aisle however, Republican Representative Mike Bost praised the new order, saying that he was hopeful that the clearer language in the executive order would help the United States honor its most important obligation; protecting its citizens.

Mr Trump’s new order removes Iraq from the list of banned countries and also makes clear that current visa holders are not impacted.
