A Carbondale woman is in stable condition after crashing her vehicle into several trees, trying to avoid hitting an animal.

Authorities responded to the single-vehicle crash around 5:40 pm on IL Route 151 near the intersection with Dry Hill Road on Saturday.

The driver, 36-year old Meghan Romano had to be removed from the car, and taken to a local hospital, before being airlifted to a St. Louis hospital for treatment.

Romano’s passenger, 36-year old Brandon Saul was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
