The man who was shot by a Metropolis Police officer Thursday has been identified. 63-year old Donald Hicks was killed by a Metropolis Police officer after allegedly pointing his gun at an officer.

A State Police news release stated that Massac Co. Deputies responded to a call of a suicidal man threatening to shoot himself. Hicks was not found for a time but was later found driving by officers from the Massac Co. Sheriff’s Department, Brookport Police Department, and Illinois State Police.

Hicks eventually stopped the car after hitting stop strips. Later on Hicks allegedly pointed his gun at an officer and was fatally shot.
