CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) — Southern Illinois University President Randy Dunn says the school won’t use an outside search firm to hire a new chancellor.

He says an internal committee will be formed to conduct a search and will save the school as much as $120,000. Dunn also has taken on the Carbondale campus’ chancellor duties since the unexpected death of interim chancellor Paul Sarvela last month. He says the search should take about six months.

The Associated Press reports Dunn is responsible for appointing the chancellor search committee members.

Dunn says the pool of chancellor candidates will ultimately be whittled down to three applicants. He says their names will be released to faculty and staff so they can partake in the selection process.
