Illinois State University SealNORMAL, Ill. (AP) — Illinois State University trustees are expected to consider a 2.1 percent tuition increase at a meeting on Friday.

University spokesman Eric Jome said trustees would normally have considered tuition rates for the coming school year in May. But this year they wanted to wait to see how much money the university would receive in the just-passed state budget.

Jome said the increase would raise the cost of a year of tuition, room and board to $22,942 a year for full-time in-state students.

If the increase is approved it would only affect students starting school in the fall. State law guarantees that students at public universities will pay the same tuition rate for four years.

Tuition at Southern Illinois University will remain flat for incoming students this fall.
