A man accused of leaving severe burns on his ex-girlfriend will have a new trial date.
Franklin County Judge Tom Tedeschi granted a continuance Tuesday for 30-year-old Christopher Rollins. He is now scheduled to go on trial September 4 on charges of aggravated battery.
Rollins is accused of throwing a flammable liquid on his girlfriend at the time, 24-year-old Tessa Leech, in August 2012.
Rollins was scheduled for a bench trial later this week, but the public defender assigned to Rollins asked for more time, citing his heavy workload.
The Southern Illinoisan reports Tedeschi said this will be the last continuance of the trial.
