Eric Sullivan

BENTON, Ill. (WJPF) – A Benton man has been charged with fighting with police during his arrest on drug possession charges.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office says multiple calls were made to 9-1-1 Monday concerning Eric Sullivan, 53, walking in the middle of Illinois Route 34, near Steel City Road.

The sheriff’s office say Sullivan refused to move when asked to by deputies, shoved one deputy in the chest, and tried to kick the deputies before he was placed in handcuffs.

The sheriff’s office says they found a plastic bag in his possession; the contents of it tested positive for cocaine.

Sullivan was taken to the Franklin County Jail on charges of aggravated battery to a peace officer, resisting or obstructing a peace officer, and possession of a controlled substance.
