COLP, Ill. (WJPF) – The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office says eight deputies were needed to arrest a Carterville man who was driving with a revoked license.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies knew from prior contact that 49-year-old Rusty Wagley’s license had already been revoked when they saw him driving in Colp on December 18.

When deputies attempted to make a traffic stop, they say Wagley continued to drive for about a half a mile before he got out of the vehicle and ran into a neighbor’s home. When police entered the home, they say they found Wagley sitting in a recliner. They say he refused to stand and began to fight the deputies. They say eight officers were needed to subdue to the 49-year-old.

In addition to the moving violations of driving with a revoked license, operating an uninsured vehicle, making an improper turn, and illegal transportation of alcohol, Rusty Wagley is also facing charges of fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer and resisting or obstructing a peace officer. Wagley was booked into and then released from the Williamson County Jail. His next court appearance is scheduled for February 13, 2024.
