CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Southern Illinois University women’s soccer team was picked to finish eighth in the 2023 Missouri Valley Conference Preseason Poll.

The poll was voted on by head coaches across the league. Missouri State was projected to finish in first after receiving 120 total votes and 10 first-place votes.

Graduate student Emma Spotak was named as an honorable mention after scoring three goals and tallying one assist in 2022.

Southern Illinois is coming off of a 2022 season where it posted a 8-5-4 record and hosted its first-ever playoff match as a top four seed in the Valley.

The Salukis will open up the new campaign on Thursday, Aug. 17, at 1 p.m., at home against Jackson State.
