Abe Martin Field at Itchy Jones Stadium is getting new turf.  The SIU Board of Trustees met Thursday and one of the items that was approved was $1.25 million for a new turf field for the Saluki Baseball squad.

The turf is expected to be installed during the fall.  The current playing surface is roughly 10 years old and is near the end of its usefulness.

A decade ago, a full renovation of Abe Martin Field was approved by the SIU Board of Trustees which resulted in the construction of Itchy Jones Stadium and included the then-new AstroTurf field.

Abe Martin Field was built in 1964.
