CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) — SIU Carbondale is welcoming a new Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Paul Frazier is described by the university as a “veteran educator and administrator.” His appointment will become effective July 1, pending approval by the SIU Board of Trustees.

“SIU has the components to take diversity, equity and inclusion to the next level,” Frizier said. “Now is an opportune time for individuals to collaborate so that SIU is a national model of excellence. When I arrive on campus, I plan to sit down and talk to people and listen. Everyone has a stake in improving diversity, equity and inclusion. I am excited and ready to do the work.”

Frazier held similar positions in the past at the University of South Alabama, where he served as chief diversity and inclusion officer since 2018. Before that he was Texas Tech as the associate vice president for institutional diversity, equity and community engagement. He also spent many years as a teacher, coach and administrator for various schools in Lubbock, Texas.

Frazier earned multiple degrees from Texas Tech. He holds a bachelor’s in history, two master’s degrees (one in education, the other in curriculum and instruction) and a doctorate in educational leadership.
