HARRISBURG, Ill. (WJPF) — Brian Burns is scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday for the March 2016 murder of his estranged wife Carla Burns.

The former Saline County doctor was convicted in December 2019 of first degree murder and concealment of a homicidal death.

This is the third time a sentencing hearing has been scheduled for Burns. The first, in February, didn’t happen because of a clerical error that resulted in Burns not being transported to the courthouse. The second scheduled hearing in June was scrubbed after Burns’ attorney said he was not aware of the rescheduled date.

Brian Burns is already serving a 25-year prison sentence for attempting to arrange the kidnapping of Mike Henshaw, the former Saline County State’s Attorney who was prosecuting the case against him.
