CHICAGO, Ill. (WJPF) — Former Illinois Lt. Governor Sheila Simon has joined over fifty other prominent Democrats from across the state in calling on Mike Madigan to step down from his leadership positions.

Calling themselves the Illinois Democratic Leaders for New Leadership, the group says that Madigan continuing to serve as Illinois House Speaker and Chair of the Democratic Party of Illinois threatens other Democrats’ ability to achieve their legislative goals.

Seven currently serving democratic state representatives are also calling for Madigan to give up his leadership positions.

Madigan has been implicated in a bribery scheme involving utility company ComEd, but has not been charged with a crime. Madigan has denied any wrongdoing.
