DWIGHT, Ill. (WJPF) — The federal government has given up on plans to build a privately-operated immigration detention facility in the northern Illinois town of Dwight.

Last year, the Illinois General Assembly passed and Governor Pritzker signed into law the Private Detention Moratorium Act which blocks for-profit prisons from being built in Illinois.

The bill was largely in response to the planned Dwight facility.
