WATERLOO, Ill. (WJPF) — President Donald Trump has announced his intention to nominate 20th Judicial Circuit Judge Stephen McGlynn to the US District Court for the Southern District of Illinois.

A Republican, McGlynn has served on the 20th Judicial Circuit since 2013 when he was unanimously chosen by the Illinois Supreme Court to replace Judge Michael Cook. McGlynn was then elected to a full term of his own in 2014.

He must now be confirmed by the US Senate.

Democratic Illinois Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth have released a join statement endorsing McGlynn.
