Marion Mayor Mike Absher

MARION, Ill. (WJPF) — The Marion City Council has voted to pass Mayor Mike Absher’s 2020 Vision Proposal.

The unanimous vote raises the city’s sales tax from 8.75% to 9.5%. It’s estimated to bring in an additional $3.6 million.

City leaders also eliminated Marion’s property tax levy on property inside city limits.

Mayor Absher says the changes are needed to prepare Marion financially for the year 2023 when TIF districts expire.
