CARBONDALE, IL. (WJPF) — Two Chicago-area men have been arrested following an armed robbery of a convenience store in Carbondale.

It happened just after 1:30 PM Monday at Omar’s Food Mart on East Walnut Street.

According to Carbondale Police, Joseph Paden and Jered McPike, both of Cook County, wore masks over their faces and both were armed with pistols when they robbed the store of both money and merchandise.

The two fled on foot, but were caught after a short chase minutes after the robbery.

Both Paden and McPike were found in possession of weapons and stolen property. Both were charged with armed robbery. McPike was additionally charged with obstructing justice and unlawful use of weapons.

At the time of his arrest, Jered McPike was also wanted on a Jackson County warrant for failure to appear in court on a battery charge and on an out-of-state warrant.

Both were taken to the Jackson County Jail.
