CARBONDALE, IL. (WJPF) – The SIU community continues to mourn the loss Carbondale Chancellor Carlo Montemagno.

Montemagno passed Thursday morning at the age of 62. He had announced in June that he was undergoing aggressive cancer treatments.

He was a distinguished scientist, known for his work in nanotechnology and bioengineering.

Montemagno is survived by his wife, Pam, two children, and five grandchildren.

A vigil honor his life is planned for 5:00 PM Friday at the SIU Student Services Pavilion.
