The Illinois State Senate passed a new state budget Wednesday nigh, touting the spending plan as a bipartisan effort.

In what’s been quite a change from previous years, the Senate easily approved the 38 point 5 billion dollar budget that includes more money for education, initiatives to help keep more college students in Illinois, and no tax increases.

The budget includes some cuts and pension buyout options to help save money. House lawmakers will vote on the spending plan next.
