Two were injured in two separate shootings in Carbondale early Saturday morning.

The first happened around 2:15 AM, at Curbside Bar and Grill on Main Street and was described by Carbondale officials as an active shooter situation.

According to police, officers making routine patrols heard shots coming from inside the building.

Inside, the officers found a black male firing a gun into a crowd of people. A Carbondale police officer shot at the gunman, wounding him, in an effort to protect the public from possible injury.

Police then preformed life-saving first aid on the gunman until an ambulance arrived.  The suspect was later taken to a St Louis hospital. The identity of the suspect has not yet been released.

Because a Carbondale officer was involved in the shooting, State Police will be leading the investigation.

The second incident happened roughly an hour later in the 500 block of South Ash Street.

Officers responded to that scene in response to a report of a gunshot victim. Arriving at the scene, police found one person with life-threatening injuries.

They were taken to a St Louis hospital.
