The Zeigler City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to remove treasurer Ryan Thorpe from office after an audit showed that he embezzled $226,266.94 from the city in the past 27 months.

The audit, portions of which were read aloud at that meeting city council, found that Thorpe altered check images on bank statements  to hide his theft and used intimidation tactics to get other city officials to sign blank checks.

The look into Zeigler’s finances was prompted after the FBI raided both city hall and Thorpe’s home.
