In a recent survey by the National Council for Home Safety and Security, SIU Carbondale was ranked as one of the 100 safest colleges in America for 2017.
SIU placed 86TH out of the nearly twenty-two-hundred schools evaluated.
The rankings were determined using the most recent data from the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting and the National Center for Education Statistics.
Both campus and local crimes were taken into account and the statistics were weighted so that violent crimes counted for more than arrests for drug or liquor violations or illegal weapons possessions.
