Carbondale’s liquor control commission has fined the Hollywood Lounge $2,000 after a report of shots fired there.

The club’s liquor license was also suspended until Aug. 3.

Carbondale Police say an officer on foot patrol thought he heard a gunshot from inside the bar early the morning of July 9.

Carbondale Mayor Mike Henry tells Newsradio wJPF that what happened next is what has led to the penalties against the bar.

“When our officer initially went inside, he was told it was fireworks. The owner told him it was fireworks,” Henry said.

The officer left the bar and then on his dash cam saw a man being carried out the back door of the bar, and that man ended up with a gunshot wound at a hospital in Murphysboro about 15 minutes later, Henry said.

“The fact that he lied to our police officers is the most disturbing thing to me,” Henry said.

The gunshot victim is not cooperating with the investigation. Carbondale Police are asking for the public’s help in solving this case.
