A Carbondale police dog has retired – Viper has worked for the department for 12 years and helped seize more than a million dollars in drugs, weapons and contraband. His handler, Officer Mike Vaughn, said it’s time for a rest.

Vaughn helped the department choose a new canine officer named Pasja a few weeks ago.

Pasja will serve with Officer Seth Moorman on the city’s K-9 squad, while Vaughn will go back to being a patrol officer.
