A jury in Saline County has convicted former doctor Brian Burns of attempting to hire someone to kidnap the State’s Attorney prosecuting the case against him for the murder of his wife.

Originally arrested and charged with murder, officials say that it was while in jail that Burns contacted an undercover detective and offered him $1,000 to kill State’s Attorney Michael Henshaw.

Henshaw has since passed away as a result of an accidental fall in his own home.

Burns was convicted of all three felony counts against him — solicitation of aggravated kidnapping, conspiracy to commit aggravated kidnapping, and attempted aggravated kidnapping.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 25.
