After the first month of archery season, the number of deer harvested is nearly 3,000 lower than last year.

So far this year, 16,763 deer have been taken. At this point last year, the number was 19,567.

Despite the lower volume, outdoors writer Steve Sarley said he doesn’t believe that this indicates hunters are losing interest, but that warmer weather has taken a toll.
