$114 million in federal funding aimed at helping impoverished neighborhoods has been given to Illinois agencies.

The Chicago Sun-Times says overall, nearly $450 million has been given to Illinois since 2010 from a program created as part of the Troubled Asset Relief Program.

The money could be used to help first-time home buyers, or underwater mortgages.

The IL Housing Development Authority has yet to determine how the money would be spent.
