NAPERVILLE, Ill. (AP) — The head of the Illinois Hospital Association says a continuing deadlock in Springfield over a state spending plan could jeopardize health services.
IHA President and CEO Maryjane Wurth issued a statement Thursday about possible effects if the Legislature and Gov. Bruce Rauner fail to resolve a budget impasse by the end of the month.
She says lawmakers should consider adopting a temporary one-month budget if they fail to find a compromise.
She says that would avert a shutdown and preserve access to essential health services until a final budget agreement is reached.
Wurth says Illinois hospitals are “deeply concerned” that state payments affecting hospitals may stop. She says safety-net hospitals and rural hospitals would be especially hard hit, and that many hospitals rely on state revenue to fulfill their missions.
