Leaders of various businesses in Illinois have teamed up to convince lawmakers to reject a new stand-alone tax on satellite TV.

A proposed bill would create a new 5% tax on more than 1.3 million satellite TV subscribers in Illinois.

Similar measures have been proposed in other states, but have been rejected.

Satellite TV is often more popular in rural parts of the state as cable does not often provide service to certain areas.
