CHICAGO (AP) — A U.S. judge will decide if the sentencing hearing of a former Illinois lawmaker for child pornography can be moved from Chicago’s federal courthouse to a venue closer to his suburban home.

A hearing in Keith Farnham’s case is being held Monday in federal court in Chicago to address that and other issues. Sentencing is currently scheduled for Thursday.

The 67-year-old faces between five and 20 years in prison for transporting child pornography.

The Elgin Democrat is terminally ill and his lawyer says moving his sentencing nearer to his home would enable him to attend. But the defense says their preferred option is to put the hearing off.

Judge Edmond Chang has previously agreed with prosecutors that there’s a public interest in imposing a sentence on Farnham despite his illness.
