A three-vehicle crash near Ziegler Friday night sent five people to the hospital. 37-year old Andrew Odle of Ziegler was driving his car just before 11 pm on Creek Nation Blacktop, when he failed to stop at an intersection with IL Rt. 148.

Odle’s car collided with a Jackson County Ambulance, sending Odle’s car into the path of a third car travelling North on Rt. 148.

The driver and passenger of the ambulance were taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Odle and the passenger of the third vehicle were taken to Herrin Hospital, while the driver of the third vehicle was airlifted to Evansville, Indiana.

Odle was cited for disobeying a traffic control device, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, driving without insurance, and an expired registration.

Results of a toxicology test have not been released.
