Buckner, Ill. – A former cop has pleaded guilty to official misconduct for killing a man who was in his custody.

Former Buckner officer William McKinney reportedly agreed to a plea deal where he will serve 18 months, but he will only serve in prison on the weekends. On the weekdays, he’ll be under house arrest. His attorney says that kind of plea is rare, but it has been done before.

McKinney was on trial for the death of 62-year-old Roy Barnhart in July of last year.

Prosecutors say McKinney handcuffed Barnhart and punched him in the head several times. Barnhart died from the injuries a few days later.
