In Jackson County, a man has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman in her sleep.

The State’s Attorney’s Office says 23-year-old Shamar Scales of Carbondale was sentenced yesterday on charges of criminal sexual assault. Police say a woman reported she woke up on April 12th of last year to Scales having sex with her, which she says was not consensual.

Scales must serve 85-percent of his sentence.
