Gov. Pat Quinn announced the appointments of three new SIU Board of Trustee members. Sandra Cook, Dr. Melvin Terrell and Lee Milner will replace John Simmons, Ed Hightower and Mark Hinrichs.
Outgoing members were Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary of the Board, respectively. Their terms expired January 21.
Cook is an attorney from Collinsville, Terrell is from Chicago and is the former Vice President of Student Affairs for Northeastern University and Milner is from Springfield and has worked for more than 20 years on the State Board of Education.
All three are graduates of SIU. They will officially be sworn in at the next Board meeting on the 28th, although the Illinois Senate needs to confirm them as well.
The move comes after tensions between some of the outgoing members and other Board members Roger Herrin and Don Lowery. Herrin was removed as Chairman of the Board in March 2012 and has criticized the way the board operated.
