$30 million dollars – that is the number that those at the SIU Carbondale campus have been waiting for.

SIU President Randy Dunn said yesterday that $30 million needs to be cut from the campus’s budget effective July 1.

The cuts are being prompted largely by the state budget impasse, but also by declining enrollment in Carbondale. They are in addition to about $20 million in cuts already identified.

Carbondale interim chancellor Brad Colwell told faculty and staff in a memo yesterday to anticipate that many open jobs will go unfilled and that there will almost certainly be additional layoffs.
