The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is postponing repairs for a levee in Alexander County.

Reports state the Corps is postponing riprap work on the Len Small Levee near Miller City. There’s been a hole nearly a mile wide due to a breach from the New Year floods.

The Corps is continuing to work on a cost/benefit analysis of a more permanent fix, which would include a sand-core levee capped with clay. But it won’t start for months.

Right now, the Corp has been packing stones near the base of the breach to help prevent the flow of water from the Mississippi.
