Attempts to override the Governor’s veto of a union-backed bill failed in the IL House Wednesday evening.
Gov. Bruce Rauner vetoed the measure that sends state employee labor negotiations to an arbitrator if talks bread down and prohibits a strike or lockout during that time.
Opponents say that this is stripping the Governor of his power to work out a fair deal, but State Rep. John Bradley (D-Marion) disagrees:
“Firefighters and police personnel currently use this system to resolve issues. I stand with the middle class. I stand with state workers, and I stand with keeping this state open.”
The Senate already overrode the Governor’s veto, but the House couldn’t muster enough votes and the veto stands.
