Five people were injured in an Interstate crash near Mount Vernon over the holiday weekend.

It happened late Friday afternoon, when state troopers say a Chevy Trailblazer rear-ended a Honda CRV as cars were slowing down for road construction in the eastbound lanes of interstate 64.

Two children were flown to St. Louis Children’s Hospital for treatment. Three other people in the vehicles were taken to a Mount Vernon hospital.

State troopers ticketed the driver of the trailblazer for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
