A man is dead after a single-vehicle accident in the small town of Ferges, near Johnston City late Sunday evening.

Williamson County Coroner Junior Burke confirmed the death of 31 year old Shawn Phelps of Marion died when the vehicle he was driving left the road and struck a tree. Phelps was pronounced dead just after 10 pm.

A second person in the vehicle was taken to a St. Louis hospital and is said to be in serious condition.
