CHICAGO (AP) — Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn is dismissing criticism from Chris Christie, joking that it seemed like the New Jersey governor “ate a box of nails for breakfast” and “spit them out” at him.
Christie was in Chicago Monday to stump for Quinn’s rival in November’s election, Republican Bruce Rauner.
He called Quinn’s governorship “miserable.” And he questioned the timing of Illinois’ same-day voter registration law as well as election officials’ decision to allow a gubernatorial candidate from the Libertarian Party, but not the Green Party, on November’s ballot. Christie alleged both are attempts to increase Quinn’s votes.
Quinn denied that, adding that no one should criticize what he said are efforts to boost voter turnout. Quinn said the Libertarian Party met signature requirements, while the Green Party didn’t.
