Chicago, Ill. – An attack ad produced by Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Bruce Rauner’s campaign used made-up headlines, according to a newspaper report.

The Chicago Tribune reports (http://trib.in/1pefBFF) a new ad by the Rauner campaign, called “Headlines,” features text of several headlines on stories about Governor Pat Quinn.

The Tribune notes two headlines had no source and at least three others were shortened or changed to be more critical of Quinn.

One example in the ad was a headline that read “Quinn education cuts lead to teacher layoffs and larger class sizes,” when the actual headline of the Associated Press story was “Quinn, Rauner spar on education in 1st 2014 event” in relation to a joint appearance by the two before the Illinois Education Association in April.

Mike Schrimpf, spokesman for the Rauner campaign, says “due to time and space constraints, the phrases had to be condensed.”
