CHICAGO (AP) — Testimony continues at the federal trial of an Illinois lawmaker accused of taking a $7,000 bribe from a day care operator to secure a state grant.

An FBI agent retakes the stand in Chicago on Friday as prosecutors present their case against Rep. Derrick Smith.

Ryan McDonald first took the stand Thursday afternoon. He talked about a campaign worker, informant who came to the FBI in 2011 offering to secretly record Smith scheming to receive a bribe. The informant is referred to in court by a first name, Pete.

During opening statements Thursday, wiretap transcripts were displayed where Smith seems to talk about how to receive the bribe. He uses slang for money and asks, “How (is) she going to get the cheddar to us?”

The Democrat denies any wrongdoing.
