A barge carrying a load of crude oil collided with another barge carrying a shipment of sand on the Ohio River near Joppa Wednesday morning.
One of the oil barges was damaged but no oil leaked into the Ohio, according to reports.
The barge was reported as holding an estimated 921,000 gallons of crude oil. The vessel carrying the sand later sank.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but a Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit from Paducah was overseeing the recovery from the accident. No injuries were reported.
