MARION, Ill. (AP) — The Williamson County Board is expected to choose a replacement to the top prosecutor who’s spent three decades on the job.
Williamson County State’s Attorney Charles Garnati last week announced his resignation, effective Monday.
The county board was to take up the matter Monday and perhaps choose someone who will close out the remainder of Garnati’s four-year term.
Garnati was midway through his eighth term, and the county’s board chairman, Ron Ellis, says Garnati recommended a successor. Ellis declined to publicly identify that person. News 3 reports Brandon Zanotti of Johnston City is expected to be named the replacement.
Garnati says he’ll be going into private practice.
