CHESTER, IL. — An investigation has resulted in charges being filed in the death of Ronnie Coffman of Chester.
The 57-year-old died when the car he traveling in went into the Mississippi River in May. Two other people were also in that car, 30-year-old Russell Briseno and 26-year-old Stephanie England, both of Chester.
Briseno and England survived the accident and initially told investigators that Coffman was the driver.
Multiple inconsistencies in their statements eventually led police to identify Russell Briseno as the driver. He’s been charged with aggravated DUI and Obstructing Justice. He turned himself into authorities late Monday afternoon.
Stephanie England has also been charged with Obstructing Justice. She was taken into custody last Friday.
