MURPHYSBORO, IL. — A new defense attorney for Gaege Bethune has secured a delay in his sentencing. It has now been pushed back until September 17th.
Defense attorney Steven Greenberg, of Chicago, replaced Bethune’s previous lawyer, Michael Wepseic, last week.
Bethune’s new attorney is trying to have his conviction thrown out.
Prosecutors argued that Bethune and Varughese fought while driving around Carbondale looking for cocaine in February 2014, with Bethune causing head injuries that left Varughese disoriented and led to his hypothermia death.
Greenberg argues that no evidence was presented to prove that claim.
