The Illinois House is set to convene this morning at 11 o’clock to take up a new school funding formula bill.

The House legislative leaders have been meeting behind closed doors for days trying to hammer out a deal.

The budget lawmakers approved last month requires a new formula for schools to get money this year. Both parties agree the 20-year-old calculation Illinois uses is unfair, but Democrats and Republicans clash over changes.

Leaders have been discussing concepts from a plan the Democrat-run Legislature already approved, but Gov. Bruce Rauner doesn’t fully agree with. Republicans have been on the fence about the amount of money Chicago Public Schools receive under the plan. .

Leaders are also discussing a 75 cent on the dollar tax credit for those who donate to private school scholarships. Some Democrats are calling that a back-door voucher program.

The Leaders are scheduled to meet at 9 am before the house convenes later in the morning.
