The University of Illinois is preparing to spend about three million dollars in salary in order to save money on overtime expenses.

This decision comes after a new rule from the Department of Labor which nearly doubles the salary at which overtime pay can be denied from $23,660 to $47,500.

University officials say that it would be too impractical to track employees hours and then to figure overtime pay.
