MURPHYSBORO, IL. (WJPF) – A Carbondale man has been sentenced to six years in state prison on charge of home invasion.

25-year-old DeShawn Matthews pleaded guilty to the Class X Felony.

According to the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office, it was in November 2017 that the resident of an apartment on Oak Street in Carbondale opened their door to leave for work in the morning and found Matthews standing directly outside.

Prosecutors say Matthews, armed with a stick or club, pushed the resident back inside the apartment and forced his way inside the home, too.

The victim screamed, waking up another resident of the apartment. Matthews fled, but was apprehended by Carbondale Police later that same day.
